Jennifer M. Lawrence became
a partner in the firm in January of 2002. After graduating magna cum
laude from Tulane University School of Law, she was admitted to the
Louisiana state and federal bars in 1995. She has practiced with the
firm since graduation and has done so primarily in the areas of life,
health and disability insurance defense litigation. At least half, if
not more, of her practice consists of defending claims for benefits
brought under plans governed by the Employee Retirement Income
Security Act. She has been trial and appellate counsel in several
reported decisions, including Berthelot v. Travelers Ins. Co., 973 F.
Supp. 596 (E.D. La. 1997), in which the firm was successful in having
a purported ERISA class action dismissed before class certification
issues were addressed. She is a member of the federal, state and local
bar associations, as well as the Defense Research Institute.
